Why Your TikTok Shop Sample Requests Get Ignored (and What Gets Them Approved)

samples Oct 24, 2026

Short answer: most TikTok Shop sample requests fail for one of three reasons. The brand didn’t review the request before it expired, the creator’s post rate is low, or the creator’s profile doesn’t show they can sell that product. Fix those three and more of your requests get approved.

We sit on the other side of those requests. Last quarter our team reviewed 180,000 creator profiles and sent 30,000 samples for the brands we manage. Here’s what that side looks like.

What happens after you request a TikTok Shop sample?

A free sample request lands in the brand’s queue, and someone has to approve or decline it. The usual timelines, per Hubfluence:

  • The brand has 7 days to act. If nobody does, the request cancels itself.
  • Once approved, the brand has another 7 days to ship.
  • After it arrives, you have 14 days to post, with one 7-day extension you can request.
  • If a request is declined or expires, you wait 30 days before asking for that product again. If you withdraw it yourself, you can ask again right away.
  • Refundable samples skip approval. You buy the product and get refunded once your content meets the brand’s terms, within 90 days.

Why do TikTok Shop sample requests get ignored?

  1. Nobody got to it. Queues pile up, especially in the fourth quarter, and expired requests don’t alert anyone. An expired request often isn’t a no.
  2. Your post rate is low. If you get approved for a sample, post about it. Taking samples without posting leaves you with a poor post rate, and the next brand sees it before they see your videos.
  3. Your profile doesn’t show you can sell that product. The person reviewing your request opens your profile and watches your videos. If you’re asking for a serum and your last ten videos are gadgets, they have nothing to go on. Pin your best product videos and stay in one or two lanes.
  4. You’re aiming at the wrong shops for where you are. When you’re new, take what you can get, because no one knows you yet. Newer shops say yes more often. Checking a shop’s reviews, returns and sales history matters more once you’re at around $20,000 to $30,000 in GMV.
  5. You haven’t given the brand a reason to come back. Brands go back to creators who post for them more than once. Two or three videos for the same brand, done on time, does more for your next approval than one video each for ten brands.

What should you do when a sample arrives?

  • Before you film, watch the videos that already sold that product and ask yourself, can I make content like this?
  • Post inside the window, even if the product isn’t your favorite. It protects your post rate.
  • If a video sells, make more of that one product before chasing new ones. Brands putting ad money behind creator videos need lots of creative to test.

When does a refundable sample make sense?

If free requests keep expiring on a product you’re sure you’ll post, a refundable sample gets you past the queue. You pay up front, so only use it for products you’d actually film this week.

What’s a simple weekly routine for samples?

  1. Request samples from shops that are actively recruiting, not only the biggest names.
  2. Keep a list of every request and the date you made it.
  3. Post every sample within 14 days of delivery.
  4. Re-request anything that expired once the 30 days are up.
  5. When something sells, make more videos of it before you request anything new.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my TikTok Shop sample request declined? Most often it’s profile fit or post rate. Sometimes the brand has hit its sample budget, which has nothing to do with you.

How long does a brand have to approve a sample request? Usually 7 days, after which the request cancels automatically.

Can I request the same sample again? Yes, 30 days after a decline or expiry, or right away if you withdrew the request yourself.

How many followers do I need to request TikTok Shop samples? You need to be a TikTok Shop affiliate first. In the US that means being 18 or older with at least 1,000 followers as of 2026, with extra limits until you reach 5,000, per Creators Agency. Check TikTok Shop Academy for the current rule.
